Honeymoon Day 2

Lafarge (it amuses me for some reason)

Next day we woke up early to try to watch the sun rise but the weather was uncooperative. We went back to sleep and woke up a few hours later, had breakfast on the balcony then headed to the Royal BC Museum. On the way to the museum we saw The Empress hotel, so I grabbed a shot of it.

The Empress in daylight (with a bit of Lightroom magic applied to correct perspective distortion)

We spent a few hours of checking out their exhibits, which included a very interesting one about the race to the south pole as well as some on local wildlife, both historic and current.

Current local wildlife (Canada is very exotic, y'know?)

The other exhibit they had going was about the First Peoples (Native Canadians? Aboriginees?) of Canada, their pre-European contact existence as well as the effects that contact with outsiders had on their culture. (Basically, the Europeans did their best to eradicate the culture...) The most interesting display were the masks. The lighting of the display gave them a mystical quality.

After we finished at the museum, we headed to lunch at rebar, another vegetarian friendly restaurant (Erin had 3 Sister's Enchiladas, I had their tuna melt). The food was excellent. After that we did a little shopping at Cowichan Trading, where we bought a framed Haida green heron print and some smoked salmon jerky.

From there, we headed back to the hotel for a nap. We woke up from our nap a little while later and decided to head to Mount Tolmie since we could drive to the top (yep, we were being lazy). It turned out be a great decision, there was a full view of Victoria, and unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains and sea. Unfortunately it was a very grey day, and I didn't manage to catch the view in a way that it deserved. Below is my favorite from up there.

We then headed to the grocery store for some supplies for the coming days and walked to dinner at The Tapa Bar. (glazed carrots, potatoes, beans and rice, fried oysters, and cabbage) Another vegetarian friendly place, and another excellent meal.

Tim Horton's count - 2
